India Urged to Link Coastal Ecology, Security and Blue Economy

Dr. Jitendra Singh said India should treat its coastline as one connected system.

He said the coast is important for nature, safety, jobs, technology and people.

India has a coastline of about 11,000–12,000 kilometres.

The country wants to use the sea responsibly to grow its blue economy.

Better observation, communication, satellites and other technologies could improve coastal safety.

India is also exploring the deep ocean through the Deep Ocean Mission.

A new Indian research vessel called ORV Sagar Manthan was recently launched.

Scientists are developing robots and submersibles to study the ocean depths.

The government believes marine minerals, metals and fisheries could create new economic opportunities.
