HC Orders UP DGP on Arrest Memo Compliance
The Allahabad High Court told the Uttar Pradesh police chief to be strict with officers who don't tell people why they are being arrested.
The court said police must fill out a special form when they arrest someone, but some officers aren't doing this.
The court was hearing a case about a man named Umang Rastogi who was arrested without being told why.
The court said his arrest was illegal because the police didn't follow the rules.
They ordered the police to follow the rules properly and let Umang go unless he is needed for another case.
The court also told the police to tell all their officers to follow these rules.
Allahabad High Court directed UP DGP to take strict action against police not disclosing arrest grounds in memo.
Court observed that police are not complying with the prescribed arrest memo format issued on July 25, 2025.
The directive came during a habeas corpus petition filed by Umang Rastogi challenging his arrest and remand.
Court found Umang's arrest illegal as the arrest memo did not contain grounds of arrest or other required details.
The court quashed Umang's arrest and ordered his release unless needed in another case.
