Trump Ends TPS for Somalis
The US government has decided to end a special program called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for people from Somalia.
This program allowed them to live and work in the United States because their home country was not safe.
The government says conditions in Somalia have improved, so they no longer need this protection.
About 705 Somali people in the US will have to leave by March 17, 2026.
This decision has caused some people to protest, especially in Minnesota, where many Somali-Americans live.
The government also shared a picture of President Trump with a funny phrase from a movie, which some people found interesting.
The Trump administration ended TPS for Somali nationals, requiring them to leave the US by March 17, 2026.
The decision affects approximately 705 Somali TPS holders, a small fraction of the total 1.3 million TPS holders.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that conditions in Somalia have improved, no longer meeting TPS requirements.
Somalia's TPS designation has been extended over two dozen times due to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises.
The decision has sparked protests, particularly in Minnesota, home to a large Somali-American community.
