LRS Remittances Rise in May 2026
In May 2026, people in India sent more money abroad than in April 2026.
They invested more in stocks and bonds overseas and spent more on travel.
This helped the total amount sent abroad increase.
However, they spent less on gifts, helping family, and studying abroad.
The Reserve Bank of India keeps track of this money.
Total outward remittances rose to $2.396 billion in May 2026, up from $2.286 billion in April 2026.
Investments in equity and debt increased by over 52%, reaching $363.64 million in May 2026.
Spending on leisure and other travel also contributed to the rise in remittances.
Moderation was seen in categories like gifts, maintenance of close relatives, and studies abroad.
The Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) governs these outward remittances.
