India Warns Citizens Amid Iran Protests
India has told its people to be careful and not travel to Iran unless it's really important.
There are big protests happening in Iran because the money there isn't worth much anymore, and people are having a hard time.
The leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, called the protesters 'rioters' and said they should be stopped.
The United States said they would help the protesters, but the Iranian leader didn't believe them.
Many people have been arrested and some have died in these protests.
India is telling its people in Iran to be safe and watch the news for updates.
The protests started because of high prices and a very weak currency, but now people are also protesting against the government.
The Iranian government is trying to stop the protests, but it's not easy because the U.S. president has said he might help the protesters.
This makes the situation very tense.
India issued a travel advisory on January 5, 2026, urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran due to ongoing protests.
Protests in Iran, which began on December 28, 2025, have spread to 78 cities and 222 locations, with at least 17-20 deaths and 990 arrests.
The protests were initially sparked by economic issues, including high inflation (42.5%) and currency devaluation (1 USD = 1.4 million rials), but have evolved into broader political demonstrations.
Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, referred to protesters as 'rioters' and warned they must be stopped, while the U.S. president threatened intervention if protesters faced violence.
Indian nationals in Iran are advised to exercise caution, avoid protest areas, and register with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
