India's Grid Struggles to Absorb Solar Surge, Curtailment Rises

Imagine India's power grid is like a highway for electricity.

Recently, a lot more solar power (like from sunshine panels) has been trying to get on the highway, especially during the day.

But the highway is already full, and some of this new solar electricity can't get on.

This is called 'curtailment,' and it means the electricity can't reach homes and businesses.

Some days, almost half of the solar power is turned away.

This happens because other power sources, like coal plants, can't quickly slow down when there's too much solar power.

Also, when the sun goes down, we still need electricity, but the solar power isn't being made then.

This situation is making it hard for clean energy projects to grow, and some might even be canceled.

Experts say we need better ways to store this extra solar power, like giant batteries, so we can use it later when it's needed.
