Mira-Bhayandar Bans Sacrificial Goat Slaughter in Housing Societies

Mira-Bhayandar Bans Sacrificial Goat Slaughter in Housing Societies

A local government in Mira-Bhayandar has made new rules about goats, meat shops and stray animals.

People may not keep goats or perform sacrificial slaughter in housing societies, homes, shops or on public roads.

Meat sellers must get official permission from the civic corporation.

Selling meat without permission or in open areas can lead to a Rs 25,000 fine.

Meat and animal parts must not be visible from roads.

Shops must use frosted or tinted glass.

Repeated violations can lead to a licence being cancelled and criminal charges.

Feeding stray animals is allowed only in special areas chosen by the civic body.

The rules were introduced after disputes between residents, including tensions over goats brought to a Mira Road housing complex.
