Centre Notifies Act Reserving Four Goa Assembly Seats for Tribals

Centre Notifies Act Reserving Four Goa Assembly Seats for Tribals

A new law has been switched on for the state of Goa, in India.

Goa has a group of 40 leaders, called the Assembly, who help make rules for the state.

This law saves four of those leader seats for tribal people, who are communities that have lived there for a very long time.

This is the first time Goa will have seats especially reserved for them.

The law was passed by India's Parliament earlier, and it started working on August 6, 2026.

The Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, said it was a promise kept to the tribal communities.

He thanked the Prime Minister and the Home Minister for their help.

A tribal leader named Govind Gaude said it was a big victory for fairness.

Next, leaders will look at population numbers to decide which seats to reserve.
