IVF Helps Woman With Diabetes Deliver Healthy Twins

IVF Helps Woman With Diabetes Deliver Healthy Twins

A 34-year-old woman had been trying to have a baby for eight years.

She had several health problems that made pregnancy more difficult, including obesity, thyroid disease and diabetes.

Her husband also had problems with his sperm.

Doctors first worked on improving her blood sugar and thyroid health.

The first attempt to collect her eggs did not work well enough.

The couple then used donor eggs and a method called ICSI to help one sperm fertilise each egg.

Doctors created three embryos and placed two in her uterus.

She became pregnant with twins, and her blood sugar improved during the pregnancy.

Careful medical monitoring helped her deliver two healthy babies at 37 weeks.
