India Adds Aluminium Cookware, Beverage Cans to Quality Control
The Indian government has added aluminium cookware and beverage cans to its list of products that need quality checks.
This means these items must now have a special quality mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) before they can be sold.
The rule will start applying to big companies in October 2026, smaller companies in January 2027, and the smallest companies in April 2027.
The government is doing this to make sure these products are safe for people to use.
They have also removed some old quality rules to make things simpler.
The products mainly come from countries like the UK, UAE, China, and the US.
India adds aluminium cookware and beverage cans to quality control order (QCO) list.
BIS certification mandatory for domestic manufacturers and importers, with phased implementation.
General manufacturers must comply by October 2026, small enterprises by January 2027, and micro enterprises by April 2027.
Government has withdrawn around 50 QCOs recently to reduce compliance burdens.
Imports of these products rose to $66.65 million in FY25 from $57.28 million in FY24.
