Ludwig Göransson Explores Musical Roots for 'Sinners' Score
A musician named Ludwig Göransson, who often works with director Ryan Coogler, wrote the music for Coogler's new movie called 'Sinners.'
Because the movie is about a guitar player and takes place a long time ago (in 1932), Ludwig went on a special trip.
He traveled to Mississippi and then to Memphis, a city famous for its music.
There, he recorded the music in a special studio with local musicians.
Ludwig even bought an old guitar from 1932, the same year the movie is set, and used it to write the songs.
He also helped the actors learn how to play the music.
This was his first time being a main music person and also helping produce the movie, so he was even more involved than usual.
Composer Ludwig Göransson discussed his score for Ryan Coogler's film 'Sinners' at Deadline's Sound & Screen: Film event.
Göransson traveled to Mississippi and Memphis, recording with local musicians at Royal Studios.
He served as both composer and executive producer for 'Sinners,' a new role for him on Coogler's films.
Göransson wrote much of the score using a 1932 Dobro Cyclops guitar, reflecting the film's setting and character.
He worked closely with actors on set, as music was integral to the film's production.
