Bangladesh Court Sentences Hasina, Family in Land Scam
A court in Bangladesh has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to five years in prison, her sister Sheikh Rehana to seven years, and her niece, British MP Tulip Siddiq, to two years.
They were found guilty of being involved in a land scam where they allegedly got plots of land illegally in a new town project near Dhaka.
None of them were present in court when the sentence was given.
The Awami League, Sheikh Hasina's party, says the trial was not fair and that the court is being used for political reasons by the current government.
They believe this will hurt Bangladesh's reputation with other countries.
The government says they are just fighting corruption.
