Agniveer Mother Seeks Equal Death Benefits
A mother whose son died while serving as an Agniveer in the Indian Army has gone to court.
She wants the government to give his family the same benefits that regular soldiers' families get when they die in service.
Right now, Agniveers' families only get a one-time payment, but regular soldiers' families get lifelong pensions and other support.
The mother says her son took the same risks and wore the same uniform, so his family should be treated the same way.
The court will decide if the rules for Agniveers should be changed to give their families more support.
Mother of Agniveer M Murali Naik, martyred in May 2024, files petition in Bombay High Court.
Seeks parity in death benefits between Agniveers and regular soldiers, including lifelong pensions.
Agniveers' families currently receive a one-time compensation of about ₹1 crore.
Petition argues for equal recognition and ceremonial honors for Agniveer martyrs.
Case highlights first battlefield casualty under the Agnipath scheme.
