SC Orders ECI to Publish Logical Discrepancy Names in Bengal
The Supreme Court of India has told the Election Commission to show the names of people who have problems with their voter registration in West Bengal.
These problems are called 'logical discrepancies' and include things like different spellings of names or age differences that don't make sense.
The court wants the Election Commission to put these names in public places so people can check and fix any mistakes.
The court also said that people should have enough time and help to fix these problems.
Some people, like the West Bengal government and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), think this is a way to remove real voters from the list.
The TMC says the BJP is trying to harass voters and that the Election Commission is changing rules to help the BJP.
The Supreme Court has also said that the Election Commission should accept certain documents, like the Class 10 admit card, as proof of identity.
The court has been hearing complaints about the way the Election Commission is doing this check, and it has told the Commission to follow the rules properly.
The TMC says this is a victory for them and the people of Bengal.
Supreme Court directs ECI to publish names of voters under 'logical discrepancies' category in West Bengal's SIR.
Names to be displayed at Gram Panchayat Bhavans, Block Offices, and Ward Offices for public access.
Deadline for submitting claims and objections extended to January 19, 2026, with hearings continuing until February 7, 2026.
Final electoral roll for West Bengal to be published on February 14, 2026.
West Bengal government and TMC allege the SIR exercise is a ploy to delete legitimate voters' names and harass people.
