Guwahati Lawyers Protest Court Shift, Announce Boycott
Lawyers in Guwahati are upset because their court, where people go to solve less serious legal problems, is being moved to a different building.
They marched to show they don't agree with this change.
They say the government didn't talk to them about it, and they don't believe the old building is really that unsafe, especially since it survived a recent earthquake.
Because they feel ignored, they are going to stop working at the court for a day.
This means people will have to wait longer to get their court cases sorted.
The lawyers hope this action will make the government listen to them.
Lawyers in Guwahati protested the temporary relocation of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court to the General Administration Department (GAD) building.
The protest march began from the old CJM Court premises and traversed several key city locations.
The Lawyers Association stated the decision was made without consulting the legal fraternity.
A court boycott has been announced for November 11 to protest the "arbitrary" shift, despite acknowledging public inconvenience.
The association plans to submit another memorandum reiterating their opposition to the relocation.
