Pakistan Army Chief Munir's Power Consolidation

Pakistan Army Chief Munir's Power Consolidation

Asim Munir, Pakistan's Army Chief, is reportedly trying to control the government more.

He is allegedly putting his allies in important jobs, including in civil services.

He allegedly removed Imran Khan from power, and he now has Asif Ali Zardari as President and Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister, both of whom are said to be under his influence.

He has placed his close associates in intelligence and other key roles.

He is also planning to appoint his stooges in interior ministry, high commissions and embassies.

These moves are done to make it look like Pakistan is a democracy while he actually controls everything.

Tensions exist between the GHQ and the government over Munir's desired extension.
