BTech Enrollment Hits Eight-Year High Driven by Computer Science
Imagine lots of students wanting to study engineering!
More students than usual are signing up for BTech courses, especially in computer science and related areas.
This is because of exciting new fields like AI and data science.
Colleges have more seats available, and the government is letting them add even more.
However, some people are worried.
They are cautious about whether there will be enough jobs for all these new graduates, and some states are being careful about adding too many computer science spots.
BTech enrollment hit an eight-year high in 2024-25 with 12.53 lakh seats filled, a 67% increase since 2017-18.
Computer Science and Engineering had the highest enrollment, followed by Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Communication, and Electrical Engineering.
The approved intake of BTech seats reached 14.90 lakh in 2024-25, the highest in eight years.
AICTE attributes the enrollment surge to curriculum changes and new programs in fields like AI and data science.
Some states, like Telangana and Karnataka, have expressed caution about increasing computer science seats.
