Dollar deposits surge in November amid strong greenback
In November 2025, companies and individuals in South Korea put more money into dollar deposits.
This is because the U.S. dollar became stronger, and there was more uncertainty in the money exchange market.
Even though usually, a stronger dollar makes people sell their dollar deposits, this time they kept buying more.
Also, foreign investors sold a lot of South Korean stocks, especially from big companies like SK hynix and Samsung Electronics.
Meanwhile, individual investors in South Korea bought a lot of these same stocks.
The main stock market in South Korea, called KOSPI, had big ups and downs during the month, reaching a new high before dropping by the end of November.
Corporate dollar deposits in South Korea rose 21% to $53.7 billion in November, the largest monthly gain in 2025.
Individual investors' dollar deposits increased to $12.2 billion, marking the fourth consecutive monthly rise.
Net foreign selling in South Korea's main stock market reached a record high of 14.4 trillion won in November.
Foreign investors sold significant amounts of shares in SK hynix and Samsung Electronics.
Individual investors in South Korea bought a net 9.2 trillion won worth of shares, with SK hynix being their top pick.
