ED Seizes R-Infra Assets in Money Laundering Case
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in India has taken action against a company called Reliance Infrastructure Limited (R-Infra).
They seized 13 bank accounts of R-Infra worth ₹54.82 crore.
The ED says R-Infra used these accounts to move money meant for building roads to fake companies.
This money was then sent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong, pretending to pay for diamonds that were never actually bought.
The ED believes this was done to hide the money and avoid paying taxes.
The company's actions caused problems for banks and the public.
The ED is still investigating this case to find out more.
The ED seized 13 bank accounts of R-Infra worth ₹54.82 crore under FEMA, 1999.
R-Infra allegedly siphoned funds meant for NHAI road projects to Mumbai-based shell companies.
The money was transferred to the UAE and Hong Kong, pretending to pay for non-existent diamonds.
The shell companies were linked to hawala transactions worth over ₹600 crore.
The diversion of funds caused cash-flow problems and turned bank loans into NPAs.
