Jadavpur University Students Rename Kolkata After Maoist Leader
Some students at Jadavpur University had a meeting where they decided to give new names to their university and the city of Kolkata to remember some leaders who were killed.
These leaders were part of a group called Maoists.
The students said they did this to honor the leaders who worked for poor people.
However, not everyone agrees with this, and some people think it's not right.
The university said they didn't know the students were going to do this, and the police are watching the situation but not getting involved.
Revolutionary Students' Front (RSF) held a three-day conference at Jadavpur University, symbolically renaming the venue and city after slain Maoist leaders.
RSF named Jadavpur as 'Hidma Nagar', Kolkata as 'Koteswar Rao Nagar', and the auditorium as 'Basavaraju Auditorium' to honor Maoist leaders.
RSF claims the naming was symbolic and not secessionist or anti-national, aiming to remember leaders who worked for the poor.
The university granted permission for the conference as per norms but was unaware of the naming plans.
Police are monitoring the situation but consider it an internal university matter and will not intervene.
