Ladakh Protests: Demands for Statehood Spark Violence and Political Tensions
People in Ladakh protested because they felt the government hadn't kept its promises for more rights and protections, like becoming a state and being included in the Sixth Schedule.
These protests turned violent, with police responding to property damage.
Four people died and many were injured.
A climate activist, Sonam Wangchuk, who has been peacefully protesting for these demands, believes the government is using him as a scapegoat.
Farooq Abdullah has urged government to learn from the incident and find a solution.
The government says that they are in active dialogue with the Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance.
Curfew has been imposed in Leh district.
Protests in Leh, Ladakh turned violent, leading to deaths and injuries.
Protesters are demanding statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule.
Farooq Abdullah attributes the violence to unmet promises.
