Andhra Pradesh Govt Releases Rs 90 Crore for Imams and Muezzins Salaries
The government in Andhra Pradesh has quickly released a large sum of money, Rs 90 crore, to pay the people who lead prayers and call people to prayer at mosques.
The Chief Minister had promised to help, and the money was sent out the very next day.
This money will pay for some months that were missed, which the previous government did not pay, and also for several months in the future.
A government minister said this shows the new government is serious about helping minority groups and keeping its promises.
They also mentioned that the previous government had not taken good care of minority welfare.
Andhra Pradesh government released Rs 90 crore for Imams and Muezzins' salaries.
The release occurred within 24 hours of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's assurance.
The funds will clear pending honorariums for April, May, and June 2024, left unpaid by the previous government.
The payment also covers honorariums from January to September 2025.
Minority welfare minister N.M.D. Farooq praised the Chief Minister for fulfilling the commitment and criticized the previous administration's handling of minority welfare.
