Dhatura Offered to Lord Shiva During Shravan 2026
Shravan, also called Sawan, is a special month in Hinduism that lasts from July to August.
During this time, people go to temples to worship Lord Shiva.
They bring water, milk, flowers, and a plant called Dhatura, which is very poisonous.
They put the Dhatura on the Shiva Linga and say prayers.
The idea is that giving this plant to Shiva helps get rid of bad thoughts and brings peace.
But because Dhatura is toxic, people should never eat it or use it as medicine without help from a doctor.
Shravan (Sawan) is a holy month dedicated to Lord Shiva, spanning July‑August 2026 in North India and August‑September 2026 in South India.
Devotees offer water, milk, bel leaves, flowers, and the poisonous plant Dhatura to temples during Shravan.
Dhatura is believed to symbolize surrender of negative energies and is favored by Shiva for its wild, natural nature.
Offerings of Dhatura are placed on the Shiva Linga while chanting mantras, aiming to remove negative energies and bring peace.
The plant is toxic and should not be consumed or used medicinally without expert guidance.
