Bombay HC Questions Police Protection of Parth Pawar
The Bombay High Court asked if the police are protecting Parth Pawar, the son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in a land deal case.
The court noticed that Parth Pawar was not named in the police report, even though he is a major partner in a company that bought 40 acres of land in Pune.
The land belongs to the government and cannot be sold without permission.
The company also did not pay Rs 21 crore in taxes.
Three people, including Sheetal Tejwani, were named in the police report.
Sheetal was arrested and is in police custody until December 11.
She said she did nothing wrong and was just following orders.
The opposition says the land is worth much more than what was paid.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said his son and his partner did not know the land belonged to the government and that the deal has been canceled.
Bombay High Court questions whether police are protecting Parth Pawar by not naming him in a land deal FIR.
Parth Pawar is a majority partner in Amadea Enterprises LLP, which bought 40 acres of government-owned land in Pune for Rs 300 crore.
The firm was allegedly exempted from paying Rs 21 crore in stamp duty, and the land cannot be sold without government approval.
Sheetal Tejwani, who held the power of attorney for the land sellers, was arrested on December 3 and is in police custody till December 11.
Tejwani's bail plea was withdrawn after the court showed inclination not to entertain it, stating the land deal was a bona fide transaction.
