India’s Electronics Revolution Advances From Imports to Global Powerhouse

India used to import most of the electronics people bought.

Now it makes many more phones and other electronic products inside the country.

Electronics production and exports have grown sharply over the past decade.

More than 300 mobile-phone factories now operate in India.

Companies such as Apple have expanded production and exports from the country.

Government programs are offering support to attract investment and build factories.

India still needs to make more components and develop its own designs and technologies.

Its goal is to create a $500 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2030–31.
