Nilgiris Consumer Forums Seek Stricter Minibus and Vehicle Oversight

Consumer groups in the Nilgiris want transport officials to check minibuses more carefully.

They say some minibuses may charge more than the allowed fare.

They also want loud horns, loud music and very bright lights to be controlled.

Drivers and conductors should wear uniforms and name badges.

The groups want some minibuses to run at night when people need them.

Officials should inspect buses that are not being used even though they have permits.

They also want government buses, autorickshaws and school vehicles checked for safety and rule-breaking.

School buses should not speed or carry more students than allowed.
