France Defends Right to Reject U.S. Proposals
France's foreign minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, said in a speech that Europe has the right to say no to the United States if it makes proposals that Europe finds unacceptable.
This comes at a time when the U.S. under President Donald Trump has been making policies that have upset some of its traditional allies.
One of these policies is the U.S. interest in buying Greenland, which France and other European countries find alarming.
Barrot also criticized the U.S. for supporting far-right parties in Europe and for imposing sanctions on European officials.
He said that France would resist such pressure and that Europe should be able to choose its own rules.
