Sarhad Urges Bhupen Hazarika Name for Mumbai-Guwahati Express
Sarhad is a social and cultural organisation based in Pune.
It wants a train between Mumbai and Guwahati to be named after singer and musician Bhupen Hazarika.
The group sent this request to the Prime Minister.
It suggested the name “Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Express.”
The request applies to train numbers 15647 and 15648.
Sarhad says Hazarika helped connect Mumbai with Guwahati.
It also says he helped bring Northeast India closer to the rest of the country.
The organisation has been making this request since 2015.
Sarhad believes the change would be a fitting tribute during Hazarika’s birth centenary year.
