Probe Reveals Funds Misuse for Temple Construction
In a village in Madhya Pradesh, some officials and an elected representative might have taken money meant for building a community center and used it to build a temple instead.
The government had given Rs 24 lakh for a community center, but an investigation found that only a few pillars were built at the designated site.
Instead, a temple was being built nearby with public donations.
The district collector has ordered that the money be recovered from those involved and has started disciplinary action against them.
The local MLA, however, says that a three-storied community center is indeed being built at the site.
A probe found that government funds allocated for a community center were used for temple construction in Chhindwara.
Rs 24 lakh was allocated under the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) fund scheme, with Rs 17 lakh already released.
The investigation revealed that only fifteen pillars were built at the designated community center site, while a temple was under construction nearby.
The district collector has ordered the recovery of funds from six officials and one elected representative and initiated disciplinary action.
The local MLA claims that a three-storied community center is under construction at the site.
