NIMS Doctors Treat Rare Heart Disorder
Doctors at NIMS in Hyderabad have successfully treated two young patients with a rare and serious heart condition called ventricular premature contractions (VPCs).
This condition causes irregular heartbeats, which can weaken the heart over time.
The patients, a 31-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, had been suffering from severe symptoms like dizziness, chest pain, and breathlessness.
The doctors used a special treatment called radio frequency ablation (RFA) to fix the problem.
They used advanced 3D mapping to find the exact spots causing the irregular heartbeats and treated them precisely.
After the treatment, both patients' heart functions improved significantly, and they no longer have the condition.
The treatment was provided for free under a government health scheme called Aarogyasri.
Doctors at NIMS successfully treated two patients with persistent ventricular premature contractions (VPCs) using radio frequency ablation (RFA).
The patients had a high VPC burden of 40–50%, causing severe symptoms and heart dysfunction.
The 31-year-old woman had to terminate her third pregnancy due to the condition, while the 20-year-old man experienced breathlessness and severe left ventricular dysfunction.
The treatment involved 3D electro-anatomical mapping to precisely identify and ablate the abnormal electrical signals in the heart.
Post-treatment, both patients showed significant improvement in heart function and complete relief from symptoms, with no further treatment needed.
