RBI Announces Early Redemption Price for Sovereign Gold Bonds
The RBI is letting people cash in their Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) early.
These bonds, which are like buying gold, were sold back in 2019.
If you have these bonds, you can sell them back to the government on September 17, 2025, at a price determined by the market value of gold.
If you bought the bonds in 2019, you'd get about 183% of your initial investment back.
Plus, you've been earning extra money (2.5% per year) just for owning the bonds.
This makes SGBs a good way to invest in gold without having to store the gold yourself.
RBI announced the premature redemption price for SGB 2019-20 Series IV.
Investors can redeem bonds early on September 17, 2025, after a five-year lock-in.
The bonds were issued at ₹3,890 per gram in September 2019.
The redemption price is set at ₹11,003 per gram.
Investors will see a return of approximately 183% on their investment (excluding interest).
