Satya Niketan Students Face Costly, Crowded PG Living Conditions

A building used as a boys’ paying guest home collapsed in Satya Niketan on Sunday, and seven people died.

Many students live in this area because it is close to University of Delhi’s South Campus.

College hostels are limited, so students often have few other choices.

A shared room can cost between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 each month.

A single room can cost as much as Rs 25,000.

Students say some rooms are too small, poorly ventilated and overcrowded.

They also report problems with food, hot water, appliances and flooded streets.

The collapse has made students and their families more worried about the safety of nearby buildings.
