Kuki Group Seeks US Intervention in Manipur Road Ban
A group called KANAM in Manipur is upset because a court called the National Green Tribunal stopped them from building a road in a forest.
They say this road is important for their safety and survival.
So, they wrote letters to the US Embassy and the United Nations asking for help.
The court stopped the road because it was built without proper checks to protect the environment.
The group building the road says the ban is unfair and could put their lives at risk.
Others say the road is illegal and harmful to nature.
KANAM seeks US and UN intervention after NGT bans construction of a road in Manipur's forest areas.
NGT's ban is due to lack of environmental and geological safety assessment for the road.
KANAM accuses NGT of 'institutional violence' and 'collective punishment' for the ban.
The road, named 'German Road' and 'Tiger Road', is reportedly named after Kuki militants.
COCOMI, a Meitei community organisation, applied for the ban, citing unauthorised construction in ecologically sensitive zones.
