June tractor sales rise, monsoon concerns loom

Tractor sales in India had a strong start in June 2026, with wholesale dispatches up 11.9% and retail sales up 25.3% compared to the previous year.

This growth was driven by strong rural demand, a GST cut on tractors, and good farm cash flows.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a below-normal monsoon, which could slow down tractor sales in the coming months.

The monsoon is expected to be 90% of the average, which might affect farm incomes and delay tractor purchases.

Despite this, the rural economy is supported by higher minimum support prices, government subsidies, and good crop output.

Tractor manufacturers are expected to maintain healthy profits, but the industry's growth might slow down to 1-4% in FY2027 due to weather uncertainties.
