Minister Urges Proactive Urban Mobility Planning for Tier 2 and 3 Cities
A big meeting about how people move around in cities just finished.
A government minister said that smaller cities need to plan their roads, buses, and trains now, so they don't get too crowded later.
He also said that fast train lines, like the RRTS, should connect more big cities, not just around the capital.
They also launched a new logo and website for a program that will bring more electric buses to cities.
The minister suggested making some special, nicer train cars for people who earn more money, to get them to use public transport more.
Some cities won awards for having the best buses, the best places to walk and bike, and the best traffic control.
Union Minister Manohar Lal stressed the immediate need for urban mobility planning in tier 2 and 3 cities.
He advocated for expanding the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to other major metropolitan regions beyond Delhi–NCR.
The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme logo and website were launched during the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Exhibition 2025 in Gurugram.
Metro authorities were suggested to consider premium compartments to encourage public transport use among higher-income groups.
Chennai, Udaipur, and Aizwal received awards for their public transport, non-motorized transport, and traffic management systems, respectively.
