ECI Issues Notice to Ex-Mumbai Mayor Over False Nomination Complaint

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sent a notice to Kishori Pednekar, a former Mumbai mayor and current Shiv Sena candidate, asking her to respond to a complaint.

The complaint was filed by Kirit Somaiya, a BJP leader, who alleges that Pednekar did not disclose two FIRs against her in her nomination papers.

These FIRs are related to a body bag scam and a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) matter.

Somaiya also claims that another FIR against a company linked to Pednekar was not disclosed.

The ECI is investigating these allegations, and Somaiya is set to provide a sworn affidavit to support his claims.

Meanwhile, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena has moved the Bombay High Court to challenge Pednekar's nomination, alleging suppression of information about criminal cases.

The court has decided to review the matter after the elections.

In the previous BMC elections in 2017, Pednekar won Ward 199 with a significant margin.
