Singapore Won’t Interfere in Singapore Airlines’ Air India Decisions

Air India may need more money after a difficult year.

Its owners, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, are reportedly considering about 100 billion rupees in support.

The money would be provided in stages if Air India meets certain goals.

Singapore’s government said it will not tell Singapore Airlines whether to invest.

The airline must decide whether the investment is good for its long-term business.

Singapore said politicians should not control individual business investments.

However, the government also said people have a right to expect careful reviews before money is committed.

Air India’s problems included a deadly plane crash, restricted airspace, conflict in the Middle East, and higher fuel costs.
