U.S. Restricts Visas Over International Child Abduction Case Obstruction

U.S. Restricts Visas Over International Child Abduction Case Obstruction

The United States announced a new way to pressure people who delay international child abduction cases.

The policy can block visas for people accused of intentionally obstructing efforts to return children.

It may apply to government officials, judges, law enforcement officers and others.

Immediate family members may also be affected.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the goal is to reunite children with their parents.

The policy concerns people who fail to follow relevant laws, policies or court orders.

It does not create a new process for deciding custody.

It also does not itself order a child’s return.

The announcement did not name any country or person already facing restrictions.
