SC Slams Centre on Tribunal Judge Treatment
The Supreme Court is unhappy with how the government treats retired judges who work in special courts called tribunals.
The judges lack basic facilities and have to request stationary.
The Court suggested that if the government can't provide these things, it should get rid of the tribunals and have cases handled by regular courts.
The Court wants the government to give retired judges the respect and resources they need.
The government will form a committee to look into the problems and make things better.
The Court has set a date for a follow up on December 16, 2025.
Supreme Court criticized the central government for poor treatment of retired judges in tribunals.
Two former judges declined appointments due to lack of support.
Judges lack basic amenities such as housing, transport and stationery.
The Court suggested abolishing tribunals if dignified treatment cannot be assured.
A committee will be formed to create a uniform policy.
