Rise in Call Forwarding Scams in India
There's a new scam in India where bad guys pretend to be delivery people.
They call or text you, saying they need to confirm or reschedule a package delivery.
They ask you to dial a special code that starts with 21, 61, or 67, followed by a phone number.
But this code actually tricks your phone into forwarding all your calls to the scammers.
They can then steal your personal information or money.
The government has warned people to be careful and not to dial any unknown codes.
Scammers pretend to be courier agents to trick victims.
Victims are asked to dial USSD codes starting with 21, 61, or 67.
The codes forward all calls to the scammers' numbers.
Scam is based on social engineering and unfamiliarity with USSD codes.
Government has issued an advisory to warn the public.
