Live Cattle Prices Fall Amid Beef Demand Concerns
Imagine the price of cows for making burgers and steaks went up a lot recently.
Then, some people decided to sell their cows, which made the price go down a bit.
This happened because the price of beef had also gone up a lot, but now it looks like it might not go up so much anymore.
Also, since Father's Day is over and the 4th of July is coming up, people might not be buying as much beef.
The government also said there are fewer cows ready to be made into beef than last year.
The price of the cows that are fed to grow bigger also went down.
Lastly, the price of pigs went up a little bit.
Live cattle prices at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) fell to a 2.5-week low.
The price drop was attributed to long liquidation and profit-taking after recent highs.
Demand for beef is expected to decrease after Father's Day and before the 4th of July.
The USDA reported a 1% decrease in the U.S. supply of cattle on feed as of June 1.
Feeder cattle prices also fell, influenced by the suspension of Mexican imports due to screwworm concerns.
