Trump seeks to block report on 2020 election fraud case
Donald Trump, the former US president, has asked a court in Florida to stop the release of a report about his involvement in trying to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.
This report is the second part of an investigation led by a special prosecutor named Jack Smith.
Trump says that releasing this report would share secret information and that the way Smith was appointed and funded was not legal.
The first part of the report was already released in January 2025 and had some serious allegations.
Smith has said that his team found proof that Trump tried to change the election results and mishandled important documents at his home.
Trump's request is based on a previous legal argument that was dismissed.
Donald Trump filed a motion in a Florida court to block the release of Volume II of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation report.
Trump argues that releasing the report would disclose grand jury and privileged material, compromising the legal process.
Volume I of the report was released in January 2025 and contained allegations of election obstruction.
Special Counsel Jack Smith resigned after compiling the report, stating that his team found evidence of Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election and mishandle classified material.
The motion builds on a prior dismissed motion regarding the classified documents case against Trump, challenging the constitutionality of Smith's appointment and funding.
