Zojila Tunnel Completion Delayed to 2028 Due to Several Issues
The Zojila tunnel, a long road tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, is being built to make travel easier between Srinagar and Ladakh, especially during winter.
It's supposed to be done by 2026, but it will now take longer, until 2028.
Over half the work is done, and it will cost around Rs 6,809 crore.
The delay is because of things like the COVID-19 pandemic, bad weather, and a terrorist attack.
This tunnel will help people and the military move around more easily.
The Zojila tunnel project, aiming for all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Ladakh, is delayed.
Originally slated for completion by September 29, 2026, the project's new target completion date is February 2028.
Currently, 64% of the project has been completed.
The project's total cost is Rs 6,809 crore, with Rs 3,934.42 crore spent so far.
Delays are attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, a terrorist attack, and adverse weather conditions.
