Calcutta High Court Stays Police Constable Merit List

Calcutta High Court Stays Police Constable Merit List

The West Bengal government planned to hire 12,000 police constables.

A person named Sudipto Chakraborty said the hiring process may not have followed rules for reserving jobs for economically weaker applicants.

The matter went to the Calcutta High Court.

Justice Amrita Sinha temporarily stopped the government from publishing the final merit list.

This stay will remain in place until September 30.

The job notice was issued in 2024.

The written test happened in 2025, and interviews ended by February.

The new state government will now have to decide how to handle the recruitment issue.
