Andrew Left Loses Bid to Dismiss Criminal Case
Andrew Left, a well-known stock market commentator, is in trouble with the law.
The government says he lied on social media to trick people into buying or selling stocks, so he could make money quickly.
He says he's being treated unfairly because others who give good news about stocks aren't being punished.
A judge said the case can go forward, and Andrew could go to jail for up to 25 years if he's found guilty.
His trial starts next year.
US Judge Terry J. Hatter denied Andrew Left's request to dismiss his criminal case.
Left and his firm, Citron Research, are accused of using false social-media posts to manipulate stock prices.
The trial is scheduled to begin on March 17, 2025, with Left facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
Left argued that he was being selectively prosecuted for publishing negative opinions while others were not.
The case has led to some short sellers adding more disclaimers about their trading activity.
