India heading toward metabolic crisis over obesity, warns gastroenterologist

A doctor in India is worried about the health of many people there.

His name is Dr. Kalapala, and he says too many people are eating junk food and not moving around enough.

This can make people put on too much weight, which doctors call obesity.

Obesity can hurt other parts of the body, like the liver.

The doctor says stress can also make people want to eat unhealthy food.

Even kids are getting affected, and in some age groups in India, 15 to 18 out of every 100 children are overweight.

The doctor says a baby can even be affected before it is born if its mother gains too much weight during pregnancy.

Doctors can find liver problems early with simple tests like ultrasound scans.

Dr. Kalapala wants everyone to eat healthy food, exercise, and check for early signs of health problems.
