Elon Musk Calls DOGE a Side Quest

Elon Musk recently appeared on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath and talked about his experience leading the DOGE initiative.

He called it a 'very interesting side quest' and shared some of the lessons he learned.

Musk explained that the initiative aimed to cut government waste and reduce costs.

He found that many payments lacked proper codes or notes, making audits difficult.

He estimated that simple changes could save the government $100 billion to $200 billion a year.

Musk also talked about the challenges of stopping fraudulent payments.

He said that when his team tried to stop these payments, the people behind them would create sympathetic stories to justify their actions.

Musk gave examples of money meant for children in Africa ending up with a consulting firm in Washington, DC.

He humorously compared it to a 'Save the Baby Pandas' NGO that wasn't actually saving any pandas.

Musk's team faced resistance when trying to contact the actual recipients of the funds.
