Kerala Launches Budget Bus Service for Sabarimala Pilgrims
Kerala has started a new bus service to help people visiting Sabarimala, a very important place for worship.
The buses go from Vandiperiyar to Sathram, a 16-kilometer path with lots of curves and tea gardens.
The trip takes about 40 minutes and costs only Rs 33, which is much cheaper than the private jeeps that used to be the only option.
The buses run 16 times a day, starting at 5:30 am and ending at 6 pm.
People can only enter Pullumedu, a beautiful area with green meadows and forests, between 7 am and 1 pm.
If they arrive after that, they have to stay overnight.
Many people visit Sabarimala, especially during special times of the year, to see the sacred light that appears once a year.
Kerala's KSRTC launched a budget bus service for Sabarimala pilgrims, offering 16 daily trips between Vandiperiyar and Sathram.
The bus fare is Rs 33 per person, significantly cheaper than private jeeps which charge Rs 100 per head or Rs 1,000 for a full jeep.
Buses run from 5:30 am to 6 pm, with the journey taking around 40 minutes.
Pilgrims can enter Pullumedu only between 7 am and 1 pm; late arrivals must stay overnight at the Subramania Temple.
Sabarimala, located in the Periyar Tiger Reserve, attracts millions of devotees annually, especially during the Mandalam-Makaravilakku season.
