India's Forex Reserves Hit Record High
India's money saved in foreign currencies and gold, called forex reserves, has reached the highest amount ever.
This happened in the week ending January 23, 2026.
The reserves increased by $8.053 billion to a total of $709.413 billion.
This increase was because of more money in foreign currencies and more gold.
The previous highest amount was $704.89 billion in September 2024.
The money saved in foreign currencies is $562.885 billion, and the gold reserves are $123.088 billion.
The RBI, which manages this money, says it is enough to cover more than 11 months of imports.
The reserves have been increasing over the past few weeks and have gone up by about $56 billion in 2025 and just over $20 billion in 2024.
The RBI uses these reserves to keep the value of the rupee stable.
India's foreign exchange reserves reached a new all-time high of $709.413 billion in the week ended January 23, 2026.
The reserves increased by $8.053 billion, driven by a jump in both gold reserves and foreign currency assets.
Foreign currency assets stood at $562.885 billion, up $2.367 billion from the previous week.
Gold reserves increased by $5.635 billion to $123.088 billion.
