Nausicaa's absence from Nolan's 'Odyssey' sparks debate over women's roles

Nausicaa's absence from Nolan's 'Odyssey' sparks debate over women's roles

Nausicaa is a brave teenage princess in a very old Greek story called The Odyssey, written by Homer.

She finds a tired, dirty man named Odysseus on the beach and helps him get clean clothes and food.

She also tells him how to ask her parents for help so he can finally go home.

A new movie of this story was made by Christopher Nolan, but Nausicaa is not in it at all.

Some teachers and writers who love the old poem are sad about that.

They say the poem has lots of interesting women, but in the movie the women do not get to say much.

The movie also changes other parts of the story, such as how Odysseus tells about his adventures.

The filmmakers chose to tell the story in a simpler way.

This article explains who Nausicaa was and why some people think leaving her out matters.
